Male pattern baldness and hair loss in women
A large number of men and women are faced with the problem of hair loss. Many people are very bothered by it, sometimes so much so that they’re not able to live a full life. Although there is some differing data, it seems that for both genders approximately 40% are faced with the problem of hair loss at some point in their lives. In the case of both genders, many cases of hair loss are caused by genetics, aging, and sex hormones. In men with hormonal hair loss (androgenic alopecia), hair gradually starts to thin from the forehead to the temples, and at the top of the head. The consequence of hair loss due to sex hormones is the characteristic M-shaped hairline along the forehead. Male pattern baldness primarily affects the frontal and middle part of the head, which are the most sensitive to the hormone responsible for hair loss, DHT (Dihydrotestosterone). Hair In this area grows weak, and its growth stops. Hair loss due to women’s sex hormone typically starts at the onset of menopause, when the level of estrogen in the body is reduced, and hair follicles shrink. Hair loss in women differs in its appearance from that of men: in women, although hair gets thinner, entirely bald spots don’t develop. Besides heredity, aging, and hormones, several other factors can be listed as a cause of hair loss. For example, hair loss can occur due to poor nutrition, a lack of vitamins and minerals, in case of sudden weight loss or extreme diets, or even as a result of stress. Today numerous solutions are offered to temporarily alleviate hair loss, but in general products and drugs do not prove effective in stopping the various kinds of hair loss. That’s why today more and more people choose hair transplant, which brings a definitive result.
About hair transplant
Hair transplant is nothing more than a cosmetic procedure in which balding areas are covered and filled out by the transplant of a patient’s own hair. Hair transplant can be used in hereditary and non-hereditary cases of hair loss, for example in the case of scarring hair loss. The possibility of hair transplant is based on the fact that in cases of hair loss it is rare to lose all of one’s hair. The side and back part of the hair usually are usually resistant to the hormone DHT which is usually responsible for hair loss. In the course of the procedure we usually get the hair follicles to be transplanted to the balding areas from these areas which do not experience any balding. In practice then hair transplant means transplanting a patient’s own hair. Following the procedure, the transplanted hair begins to grow right away, however due to a natural process, after a few weeks it falls out. However the follicles which stay in the skin regenerate quickly, and after 3 months hair growth restarts, resulting in approximately 1 centimeter of hair growth per month. The end result can be seen after about 8-12 months. Even following the transplant, the transplanted hair is not affected by DHT, which (in most cases) had been the cause of the hair loss, so the results of a hair transplant are lifelong.
Hair transplant methods
In our clinic we use the newest F.U.E. hair transplant and S.H.E hair transplant methods. The essence of the technique is that hair follicles are extracted together with the pieces of tissue surrounding them one by one, then implanted into the areas deficient in hair. These hair follicles together with the tissue around them are collectively called grafts. The grafts are extracted from the scalp with a special tool, a thin needle. In contrast with old, outdated techniques, these needles have a very thin diameter, and leave such a small hole on the scalp that it heals after a few days, and after healing can’t be seen with the naked eye. With the use of modern, thinner needles, there is no scarring of any kind, or evidence of cutting, on the scalp, since in the use of F.U.E. and S.H.E. methods, as opposed to the method of removing a flap, there is no need to use a scalpel, there is no cut, and there are no sutures either. Unfortunately, many clinics these days still use the F.U.T. method. The biggest disadvantage of that method is that it leaves a large scar on the donor area, the nape, which can be seen with the naked eye. The advantage of the F.U.E. hair transplant and S.H.E. hair transplant techniques is that there is minimal bleeding during the intervention, there are no scars that develop on the scalp, the recovery time can be called extremely short, requiring only 1 week to 1.5 weeks, and no traces of the procedure can be seen. In our clinic there is minimal pain involved with hair transplant, according to the reports of some patients the hair transplant intervention is entirely free of pain. During the intervention we use a local anaesthetic, and when required we give pain relief medication against any discomfort or small pains that follow.
Hair transplant for women
The F.U.E. or S.H.E. method of hair transplant guarantees a maximally natural look for thinning, or balding women. We transplant hair from the nape area to the area to be treated using special tools, where these maintain their resistance to the hormones causing hair loss, so the aesthetically thick hair that is a result of successful transplant is no longer threatened by hair loss. The extraction and implantation of hair follicles isn’t painful at all, there is no need for even a minimal cut on the scalp, so naturally this means that no scars form. Luckily we are even able to perform hair transplant without cutting the hair on the area of the implantation. However, in the donor area in all cases we have to cut the hair short, however, due to the longer hair this doesn’t cause a problem, since the tufts above can be combed over that area. There is, however, one more good advantage to the longer hair of women. In the methods of hair transplant, it can be seen that in the case of F.U.E. hair transplant, that there are some spots on the treated area, which are hard to see with the naked eye, but which can be a cause for concern among our patients who wear their hair very, very short. So they tend to choose the S.H.E. method which is somewhat more costly. Thanks to the longer hair styles of women, for them in nearly all cases it is enough to use the F.U.E. method of hair transplant, which also guarantees a naturally thick aesthetic hair.
Cost of hair transplant
In every part of the world, cosmetic surgery is one of the more expensive types of surgery. Hair transplant is also a type of cosmetic surgery, as such the cost of hair transplant is not particularly low. However, it is important to consider that in Hungary the price of hair transplant is much lower than in hair transplant clinics of neighboring prices, the reason for which is so that it remains in the reach of patients of this country. Further, it’s important to consider that long-term, there is a much higher cost to the types of products which only give temporary relief from hair loss or balding. (In contrast to this, the results of hair transplant are lifelong.) To say nothing of the fact that while continuing to use hair products, the area of thin hair can grow, so with the passage of time and the growth of the balding area, the results of hair transplant can be diminished.
What is everything that adds up to the price of hair transplant?
One of the defining factors in the price of hair transplant is the quality and amount of hair in the donor area, that is, how many follicles can be transplanted during the intervention. The more of them there are in the donor area, and the better quality, the lower the price of the implantation will be. Another defining aspect is the method of hair transplant chosen for the implantation. The main difference between the various methods is the state they leave the donor area, that is, whether any lasting traces are left in the donor area, and if so, to what extent. Further, not only the size of the donor area, but the size of the area to be treated also has an effect on the price of hair transplant. The larger the area that is thinning, the more hairs to be transplanted are required, which has an effect on the length of the procedure and its complexity, thereby affecting its price. The price of hair transplant differs from person to person, so in order to determine it in every case a personal consultation is required, where the hair stock is evaluated, and a transplant plan is created taking into account a patient’s needs. In our clinic we always await patients with discounts and easy payment solutions!
